Sports Medicine

Sports medicine is a field of medicine that is associated to the treatment of sports related injuries and conditions. Doctors who specialize in sports medicine go through specialized training for conditions associated with sports and physical injuries. It is becoming an increasingly popular field and the demand for sports medicine specialists is growing as the general population seeks to become more active. The goal of sports medicine is to help prevent injuries and optimize health. We strive to minimize loss of function; whether from work, sport, or life activities and to ensure and enhance complete recovery.

Primary care physicians can become experienced sports medicine physicians. Primary care physicians can be trained and certified in Sports Medicine through an extra 1-2 year additional training fellowship. Some go on to further training outside of their clinical practice, through: caring for local or professional sports teams, academic appointments, clinical research, and participation in various sports medicine societies and meetings.
